September Issue????

rschnapp Aug 24, 2009 @ 10:08 am 0   Good Poor
Did ANYBODY manage to pick up a pass to September Issue? I tried several times while it was "available", and was given the boot each time, saying that no tickets were available when I hit the "reserve" button. I have a feeling there was a glitch, and no passes were successfully delivered.

Sept Issue Tickets
Yes, we were lucky enough to get a pair of tickets so we know they were available and distributed. It was the usual rat race last night when hundreds of people were all jamminmg FilmMetro's servers at the same time to see this popular film. You keep getting kicked off and you keep trying. With the countdown going on for days, there was quite a crowd at the designated time. You've only got a few minutes and not everyone is going to get one of the limited number of tickets. Is it possible you were hitting the "back arrow" button to return to the previous window each time, rather than the "refresh" button which updates the FilmMetro window? If so, you may have kept trying after it really said "sold out" but you kept seeing "available" because you were looking at a window minutes old that was no longer correct.

Have you actually watched the trailer for this film?
It's a documentary about the head-honcho of Vogue magazine! Food, Inc. was probably more exciting.

Difference Between Sept and Food
Sept Issue is a drama about the hectic world of fashion magazine publishing. That appeals to fans of the Devil Wears Prada and the wildly popular TV series Ugly Betty. It's not for everybody for sure. Based solely on film descritpions, Food, on the other hand, appeared to be a documentary intended for people who want to be disgusted by the worst of the food processing horrors. Two entirely different target audiences with entirely different tastes in what they consider entertaining. Like District 9, people either love or hate certain movies. No need to trash movies you don't like and haven't seen just because the topic doesn't appeal to you. I fully get your point of view. My own family is deeply split on Sept Issue, and only those who want to see it will go. Then they will decide on its merits after they have seen it.

Nope, I went back to the San Diego page anew, each time. Saw "available" in green at least three times. Twice got to the details page with a "Reserve" button, and each time was bounced with "no tickets available" or equiv. Oh well.

Wasn't comparing
I was trying to ease the disappointment of NOT getting a ticket right away. When people realize what it's about, they are more apt to put their tickets back on Filmmetro for grabs. By the way, I loved "The Devil Wears Prada". Alot of people don't like documentaries. I was just sharing that point.

I also did not get tickets. Tried rebooting and after 2 minutes they were all gone.

Prado and Hillcrest
So, seems there are at least two screenings for "September Issue" on the 8th - the one offered here on Film Metro at The Museum of Photographic Arts in Balboa Park, and the one at Hillcrest being promoted on UTPerks, for one. I think I've been to the Balboa Park theater before - not very large as I remember. Didn't get a ticket on Film Metro as they went so fast. As to comments above - I didn't see anybody "trashing" this film, so, be calm :-) I'm sure this film has limited appeal. Perhaps I'll see it and be suprised !
