The Exiles

Milestone Film & Video

Shot on a shoestring in the 1950s, THE EXILES offered a rare glimpse into Native-American life in Los Angeles' Bunker Hill--a place that would never be the same again. By 2008, when the film finally received theatrical distribution, the once vital neighborhood had been bulldozed and redeveloped into condos and skyscrapers. This loose and gritty drama, featuring a cast of young nonactors mostly playing themselves, offers a rare glimpse into a lost time and a culture that didn't often find itself on celluloid. Taking place over one long day, it follows a group of reservation transplants as they fight, flirt, dance, and drink the night away.
